At the end of the two Lectures in week 9, the student will be able to:

  • Describe the synthesis of posterior lobe hormones (ADH and Oxytocin).
  • Explain why ADH is refered to as Vasopressin.
  • State the reproductive role of oxytocin
  • Describe the histological considerations of the thyroid gland.
  • Outline the synthesis of the thyroid hormones.
  • Discuss the regulation and actions of thyroid hormones
  • Describe the pathophysiology of the thyroid hormones.
  • Describe adrenal cortex
  • Explain the regulation of cortisol and aldosterone
  • State the role of Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System in the regulation of blood pressure.
  • Describe the effects of glucocorticoids
  • Clarify the role of mineralocorticoids in the maintenance of ionic balance of the body.
  • Discuss the pathophysiology of  the adrenal cortex
  • Briefly explain the role of adrenal medulla in endocrinology
